Train to learn and grow
I have been engaged in training the trainers for the past one month which seems in the first sight a very daunting and a challenging task.
The audience need to be made felt that I am one among them but at the same time skilled and expert enough to guide them. If they do not feel the trainer as one among them the distance between them becomes too much and the trainees feel that the trainer belongs to some other planet and all what he or she has achieved is beyond their competence. And if you are not able to prove your competence in the subject that you are training for they lose the interest in the whole learning process.
So I realised that I need to cast a first good impression for the trainees to accept me and eventually like me and then take them up above the ladder to see the better view above. They must be made to feel that the trainer has climbed this ladder many a times and they can safely hold the hand of the trainer and explore their way up.
It requires the trainer to captivate the audience by a strong stance of confidence and grace which is generally reflected in the way you carry yourself, hold yourself in command and have that positivity of your character to truly reflect your seriousness about the assigned work. The right posture, charming looks and right dress choice does clearly help in making the first right impression.
Once the audience accepts the trainer as impressive, the next goal to achieve is being effective in your content and delivery of subject matter. The depth and breadth of knowledge is required to prove the effectiveness of the training and engage the trainees to actively participate in the learning process.
And when the process is near to end, the trainees need to be made to feel a sense of personalized attention being given to them for their development and then help them feel for themselves what they have acquired in the whole process and make them take up charge of their future progress themselves.
As Albert Einstien quoted, “Education is not the learning of the facts, but the training of the mind to think”. It is important that the trainer leaves the trainees empowered and free to choose the various methods proposed wisely and adapt them effectively to make sustainable yet transformative changes in their life.
